Way to go for Darren! He’s really helped elevate Calgary’s food scene over the last few years. I’ve eaten at all of theses places (as per the almost weekly posts of me stuffing myself at DOPO). The only one I think is good, but not deserving of top 100 is River Café, not because it’s not tasty, but because the food is somewhat uninspired, and hasn’t really evolved over the years. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, and the location is great, but it’s definitely not better than the others on this list that ranked after it, and there’s a few restaurants in Calgary more deserving. LIKE:
1. Pat & Betty: located on 1st Street. This restaurant is peak comfort food, if your comfort is eating great food!
2. Bar Gigi: it’s a travesty this one isn’t on the list. This tiny “hole in the wall” on Edmonton trail is great in most aspects, the food is top notch, the service is always bang on, and the location is non-ironically kind of dilapidated. Highly recommend.
But Congrats to Calgary for being on the list! Let’s try to get at least 10% of the list next year!
